Jamie Foxx is giving JAŸ-Z, formerly Jay-Z, his flowers following the hip-hop mogul’s viral appearance at the 2026 Roots Picnic.
The Academy Award-winning entertainer took to Instagram on June 1 to reflect on JAŸ-Z’s evolution from rising rap star to one of music’s most influential figures. His post arrived days after JAŸ-Z’s headline-making performance at the annual Philadelphia festival, where the Brooklyn icon delivered a freestyle that sparked widespread discussion across social media.
“There’s levels,” Foxx wrote, framing his message as a tribute to the rapper’s longevity and cultural impact.
Foxx recalled introducing his father to Jay-Z nearly 25 years ago during a performance in a small Miami club. Despite the intimate setting, he said the rapper commanded the room with the presence of an arena headliner.
“I said dad you have to come see this guy named Jay-Z,” Foxx wrote. “Jay-Z came out, stood in one place and rocked a small club in Miami as if we were in an arena.”
According to Foxx, the performance left a lasting impression on his father, who was stunned by Jay-Z’s natural charisma and stage command.
“My dad could not believe how much energy and talent this man possessed,” he continued.

“If you get a chance, go see this legend in concert,” he said. “He’s been holding it down for a long time.”
