Duane “Keefe D” Davis is breaking his silence from prison as he confronts a murder charge linked to Tupac Shakur‘s 1996 killing.
Davis, maintaining his innocence, has been held at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas since his September 2023 arrest. He has now sat down with ABC News for his first interview since the incident. “I’m innocent,” he voiced to Good Morning America. “I did everything they asked me to do. Get new friends. Stop selling drugs. I stopped all that. I’m supposed to be out there enjoying my twilight at one of my f—ing grandson’s football games and basketball games. Enjoying life with my kids.”
2Pac’s killing went unsolved for nearly 27 years until Davis’ 2023 arrest, decades after the iconic Death Row rapper was shot in Las Vegas. Despite the charges, the ex-Crips member—whom prosecutors claim masterminded the assassination—is certain he’ll be acquitted. “I did not do it,” he declared. “They don’t have nothing. And they know they don’t have nothing. They can’t even place me out here. They don’t have no gun, no car, no Keffe D, no nothing.”
Davis Claims Alibi, Immunity Deal in 2Pac Case
Davis asserts he was far from the scene when the 2Pac shooting occurred, claiming that “20 or 30 people” will testify in court to verify his alibi.
While he’s previously discussed his purported connection to Pac’s death, sharing details in various interviews and his 2019 memoir Compton Street Legend, Davis’ involvement in 2008 reportedly included agreeing to a proffer agreement with law enforcement tied to an L.A. task force, which would have provided him immunity from prosecution in the case. Nonetheless, he repeated his supposed involvement in Pac’s death to Las Vegas detectives a year later, though they were under no obligation to uphold any prior deals.
In January, a judge in Clark County ruled that Davis failed to present any proof of immunity deals, with his bail denials mounting. Shakur was killed in a drive-by shooting on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas. Authorities believe Davis coordinated the attack with others following a fight at the MGM Grand. Davis, arrested in September 2023, faces first-degree murder charges and will stand trial in February 2026.
