Kendrick Lamar is preparing for his highly anticipated Super Bowl halftime performance by releasing a capsule collection with Willy Chavarria.
Hypebeast reports that Lamar’s company pgLang, Chavarria, and the NFL have partnered for the merch. The selection consists of a satin jacket, hoodies, t-shirts, jerseys, and shorts.
Some of the items in the collection feature lyrics from Lamar’s track “TV Off,” and “g.NATIONAL” written on them which allude to his upcoming Grand National Tour featuring SZA.
Also, the collection featured lightweight practice jerseys and drawstring mesh shorts, Super Bowl LIX hoodies, and T-shirts with Felipe Merida-designed graphics featuring other lyrics such as “Foot Up On The Gas But Somebody Gotta Do It” — on the body.
In a statement, Chavarria shared the inspiration behind the merch.
“The inspiration for this collection was just celebrating him and celebrating a real ’90s influence in fashion,” Chavarria said. Going back to the whole idea of how people of color incorporated sportswear into fashion.”
This is not the first time that Chavarria and Kendrick have worked together. Chavarris created Lamar’s fits for his Big Steppers Tour and styled him for the “Not Like Us” video.
The Super Bowl performance and the capsule collection continue Kendrick’s hot streak. As HOT97 previously reported, SZA will join Kendrick during his Super Bowl halftime performance. A trailer was recently released by Kendrick and Apple Music shows the rapper strolling across a football field before SZA playfully sneaks up and splashes him with a bucket full of blue sports drink. The highly anticipated halftime show will take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9th.
Also, Kendrick and Sza will hit the road on a Grand National Tour stadium tour in April.
