Although Lil Wayne won’t be at the Super Bowl in his hometown of New Orleans, he’s hinted at something “special” in the works.
The rapper posted to Instagram Stories that on Thursday (February 6) he will share the big reveal. Coincidentally, this happens to be the same day Kendrick Lamar will sit down for an exclusive interview with Apple Music in hype of his upcoming Super Bowl Halftime performance. “Y’all know I’m not gon’ be there this week,” Wayne voiced in reference to the sports event. He continued, “Which means, I guess there’s a seat to fill. Shout out to New Orleans, but I’ve been working on something very special.” “I got something exciting coming for you. Thursday, the 6th. ‘Til then, I’m just chillin.”
Wayne and Kendrick Clash Before Super Bowl LIX
Nonetheless, tension has been brewing between Wayne and Kendrick ahead of Super Bowl LIX on February 9.
Wayne, who had his eye on the halftime show spot, didn’t hold back his disappointment when Kendrick was named headliner last year—nor did he extend any congratulations to his “Mona Lisa” collaborator. The Compton native later addressed Wayne’s remarks on his song wacced out murals, off his latest album, GNX, rapping, “Used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.” The lyrics soon to quick response from Weezy, who replied, “Man, wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all. No one really wants destruction,not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.”
Nonetheless, Wayne later said that he spoke with K.Dot on a phone call and “wished him all the best and told him he better kill it.” Additionally, he expressed that he did not hear Kendrick’s lyrics about him but still posted his thoughts on social media.
