Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson shared that he suffered from depression following his loss to Jake Paul in November.
During an interview on “Covino & Rich” on Fox Sports Radio, Tyson detailed how he’s dealing with the aftermath of the historic bout.
“That fight was such a big ascent. We were so up and high, we were so excited,” Tyson said. “The fight’s over, boom. Wow, I’m kind of depressed a little bit.
”We got to get back into daily living,” he added.
Taking place at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas, and streamed on Netflix, Tyson admitted to having “blanked out” in the middle of the fight. He still doesn’t recall much of what happened in the bout.
“I don’t remember the fight that much. I kind of blanked out and I haven’t watched the fight back,” Tyson said. “You know what I remember? Coming back from the first round and Jake was doing some sort of bow… that’s the last thing I remember.”
“Iron Mike” also spoke about the arduous process of preparing for the fight at 58 years old.
“I don’t remember the fight that much. I kind of blanked out. I haven’t watched the fight back,” he said. “You know what I remember? Coming back from the first round and Jake was doing some sort of bow… that’s the last thing I remember.”
“[We were] training for it for nine months,” Tyson added. “Now it’s just about getting back to living.”
Tyson even admitted to asking his wife, Lakiha Spicer why he put his body through such an ordeal.
“The day after I woke up and said to my wife, ‘Why did I do that?’ I just don’t know what the hell was going on,” said Tyson.
While the final result was disappointing for Tyson, the boxing event was an undeniable success. According to Netflix, more than 108 million viewers worldwide watched the fight making it the most streamed sporting event ever.
