NYPD’s Melissa Mercado Caught In Controversy Over Lingerie-Clad Twerking In Rap Video

Detective Melissa Mercado, a seven-year NYPD veteran, is making headlines—not for her police work, but for her role in a viral music video. Stripping off her uniform in favor of a bra and G-string, she stars as a video vixen in rapper S-Quire’s latest release, Doin That.”

The video, directed by Picture Perfect and distributed by WorldStarHipHop, premiered in early February. Its views skyrocketed this week after fans recognized Mercado twerking on stage in an empty bar as S-Quire rapped about pole dancing and nightlife.

She doesn’t just stick to the club setting. Other scenes show her in a thong, dancing in a VIP section and lounging on a bed in lingerie.

Despite the controversy, Mercado appears to be in the clear legally. According to the New York Post, she earns $144,000 a year as a Bronx SVU detective. A police union source told the outlet that Mercado is a skilled officer, and as long as she isn’t breaking the law, how she spends her free time is her business.

The NYPD patrol guide outlines guidelines on behavior that could bring discredit to the department, but it does not explicitly forbid officers from engaging in entertainment projects in their personal time. However, if the department believes her role in the video undermines public trust or conflicts with her responsibilities in the Special Victims Unit, she could face internal scrutiny.

The attention surrounding her role has only boosted the video’s reach. Doin That” has already surpassed one million views. Police unions have already defended her, stating she is a capable officer entitled to her personal time.

The department has not issued any formal statements indicating an investigation or disciplinary review. Unless new details emerge suggesting misconduct, Mercado appears to be in the clear—though the viral nature of the video has certainly placed her under public and departmental scrutiny.

As for S-Quire, he has yet to comment—but the numbers speak for themselves.
