The wait is nearly over for Playboi Carti fans, as the Atlanta-based rapper has officially confirmed the release date for his long-awaited album, I Am Music.
After years of speculation and delays, Carti took to social media on March 12 to share the exciting news: the album is set to drop tomorrow, March 14. In a straightforward announcement on X (formerly Twitter), Carti simply stated, “Friday.” His Instagram post, however, featured a more whimsical touch—a video of a bald British man exuberantly declaring, “New Carti album this Friday!”
DJ Akademiks has revealed that the album features collaborations with notable artists such as Future, Travis Scott, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, and The Weeknd. Akademiks hailed the project as an “instant classic,” asserting that it is “all hits no misses.” The timing of this release aligns closely with Carti’s previously established deadline. He had announced last year that I Am Music would be available “no later than six months from September 12, 2024,” making this release just two days past that target.
Playboi Carti Fuels I Am Music Hype with Cryptic Teasers and Bold Claims
The anticipation for the album has been palpable since Carti first introduced the title back in 2023.
Earlier this month, he intensified the buzz by teasing fans about the project’s release. Through his record label Opium’s Instagram, he engaged with Spotify, asking, “WHAT WE DOIN LETS GONE CLEAR DESE HO AHH NIG OUT,” to which Spotify responded with a series of hourglass emojis. Carti quickly followed up, encouraging his followers with, “YAL BOYS PUSH UP MY N-GHA.”
In a separate Instagram Story, Carti expressed confidence in the album’s replay value, stating, “N THE REPLAY [VALUE] ON 10.” Rumors had previously circulated about I Am Music potentially dropping before the end of 2024, especially after Carti previewed new tracks during his headlining performance at Rolling Loud Miami in December. In an earlier interview with Billboard, Grammy-winning producer Cardo hinted at the innovative direction of the album, suggesting that it may carve out a new subgenre within rap, tentatively dubbed “burnt music.”
He explained, “Carti’s style is in constant evolution, and we’ll be in the studio, like, ‘This music is burnt.’” Cardo, who has produced several tracks for Carti, including “H00DBYAIR” and “BACKR00MS,” cited influences such as Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul and Juicy J, as well as cinematic composer John Carpenter, known for his work on iconic horror films. With I Am Music nearing release, anticipation is at a fever pitch as fans await Playboi Carti’s next move.
