This is crazy! Lisa Khoury has filed a class-action lawsuit for $1 Billion against Griddy Energy, a Texas wholesale electricity retailer for allegedly charging unreasonable prices during the state’s historic snowstorm that left a lot of people without power.
According to ABCNews, Khoury claims that the price of her electricity bill skyrocketed to $9,340 during the week of the storm. The lawsuit states that her bill is roughly between $200 and $250 a month.
Khoury also said that the electric company had withdrawn $1,200 from her account from February 13th to 18th. The lawsuit also mentions that some customers received bills as high as $17,000.
During the storm, Khoury, her husband, and her in-laws spent most of the storm without power. Khoury had to ultimately put a stop on her account from the automatic withdrawals from Griddy. According to Khoury’s lawyer, the lawsuit is a relief for Khoury and other customers in similar situations.
