Actor and singer Tyrese Gibson publicly addressed his recent arrest on animal cruelty charges.
He defended his treatment of his pets and explained the reasons behind owning several large Cane Corsos. In a video posted to social media on October 7, the Fast & Furious star said his decision to keep the dogs stemmed from concerns over personal safety and harassment by stalkers.
“Dogs as big as my Cane Corsos — I actually never wanted to get no Cane Corsos,” Gibson said in the video, filmed at his Atlanta home. “I’ve just been dealing with stalkers.” The 46-year-old entertainer said the dogs were meant to serve as protection for his family, not as status symbols or aggressive animals.
Gibson described himself as a longtime and experienced dog owner. He named several pets he’s cared for over the years.
A Shar-Pei named Matrix, an English bulldog named King, and two Pomeranians named Angel and Dream. He said Dream, a miniature Pomeranian, remains in custody following his arrest.

“They haven’t released Dream. Free Dream. #FreeDream,” he said, adding that he needed to provide medication for the dog.
The singer also defended the presence of large dogs on his property, saying their deep bark helps deter unwanted visitors. “When you have a family and some random person pulls up, you want some dogs to bark with some bass in it,” he said. “They go, ‘Oh, they got dogs — let’s leave this house alone.’”
Gibson was arrested in early October. He was charged in Georgia with multiple counts of animal cruelty after reports of neglect involving his Cane Corsos surfaced. Authorities have not released detailed findings from the investigation.
The Grammy-nominated artist’s comments come amid growing scrutiny of the case. He framed as a misunderstanding rather than evidence of abuse.
“I’ve been dealing with stalkers and just trying to protect my home,” he said.
