According to reports, after spending 13 years in a Jamaican prison—where he recorded a chart-topping hit and had his life sentence overturned earlier this year—Vybz Kartel is preparing for a major new chapter.
After dropping two major projects this year—Party With Me (his first Grammy-nominated reggae album) and the compilation First Week Out—Vybz Kartel, known as the Worl’ Boss, is unveiling his STR8 VYBZ rum while preparing for a grand return to the stage. He will headline the Freedom Street concert at Kingston’s National Stadium on New Year’s Eve, and he plans to release a deluxe edition of his 2015 album Viking (Vybz Is King) to commemorate its 10th anniversary in January 2025.
TJ Records and The House of Angostura are sponsoring STR8 VYBZ, offering multiple flavors of the overproof rum. The flavors will include Fever, a white edition, Electric, Ramping Shop, a spiced version, and Unstoppable, a dark rum. Angostura Distillers in Topago and Trinidad will craft and deliver each flavor of the drin k.
Vybz said regarding the release, “STR8 VYBZ is more than just a rum; it’s a movement. Each bottle embodies the energy and passion of my music, and the spirit of the culture I represent.”

In other news, HOT 97 reported that last month, the dancehall star proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Sidem Öztürk. On Tuesday, November 5th, Vybz announced the engagement in an Instagram post, just months after his release from prison. He expressed his joy in the caption, stating, “It’s Official #1Wife.” “I Proposed in Prison, Proposed in #RealLife. You were there when I needed you most and I’ll never leave you baby. I cherish all the times you came to visit me and told me that it’s going to be ok. I cherish all the times we spoke on the phone and in real life in the box. We laughed together we cried together and now we celebrate together!
