Saweetie sat down with Hot97‘s TT to discuss life, relationships, acting on BMF, and more in a new interview. Throughout the discussion, the “My Type” rapper touches on several life lessons. One crucial lesson is “knowing better and doing better.” The rapper says mistakes will happen, but you must learn to forgive yourself. “I’ll be in a situation and I’ll be like ‘that’s what that quote means,’ like the saying ‘if you know better, you do better,’” she begins.
“[But] if you’re out here without a role model, a big sister, a big brother, [or] somebody guiding you, I feel like sometimes mistakes are made,” she says. “But you do have to forgive yourself.” Saweetie also discussed battling feelings of unworthiness and noted that material success won’t eliminate unresolved trauma. “I did think when I got my label deal..all this money…this car, this condo, this, and that, I would feel better and when I didn’t, I knew I had to reevaluate.”
Saweetie Reveals New Album Is Coming “Soon”
“This is the first time in a long time where I’m dropping music consistently, so I’d like to focus on my consistency first, then my album.” Regarding her expansion into movies and television, the “Icy Girl” star is enjoying the process and having fun. She recently landed a spot on 50 Cent’s BMF series. “I honestly felt like a piece of my childhood was in that character. I grew up playing softball in the neighborhood…and I was a tomboy…so the tomboy and the girl with a whole bunch of like cousins or brothers who were like the boys in the hood…I felt like I identified with that character because of my family.”
On the music front, Saweetie says she plans to drop her album, “soon,” but is still working out some kinks. The project, Pretty B*tch Music, still has no official release date, but Saweetie has released a slew of singles. “Tap In”, “Back to the Streets” featuring Jhené Aiko, and “Best Friend” featuring Doja Cat, were just a few. “I don’t have a date, [and] I have been putting out my singles, just to figure out, what the story is gonna be,” she says.
