Highest Midterm Elections show out

More than 116 million ballots were cast this midterm election. This year was the highest voter turn out for any midterm election in a century.

The Democrats win the House

The Democrats won the House majority. They needed 23 House seats to win.

The most minorities and women elected into office

Women were elected at historic levels for the midterm election. For the first time, Native American, African-American, and Muslim women won seats in the House. 40 women of color will be in the House, Tennessee elected their first female senator, and South Dakota and Maine elected their first female governor.

California Wildfires

Deadly wildfires swept through California, making them the most destructive in the state’s history. The Camp Fire destroyed more than 19,000 buildings which were mostly homes.
