Harlem’s very own Dave East wanted to do something dope for his neighborhood.
Def Jam/Mass Appeal teamed up with the Hustler’s Guild and The Urban Assembly to make this happen. The students at East Harlem School had no clue Dave East would be spending his morning with them, talking about how he survived growing up in the streets of Harlem.
The students were intrigued by hearing Dave’s stories about earning a basketball scholarship but blowing it due to bad behavior. He motivated the youth to find their passion and be mindful of their surroundings.
He gifted some students with a book bag he designed that has a map of Africa on it. He also gave out more freebies to other students.
Dave East said it was important for him to visit the Neighborhood High School in Harlem because he wanted to show the youth that they can make it out of the hood.
