Jada Pinkett-Smith Reveals Chris Rock Asked Her Out On A Date Amid Divorce Rumors

Jada Pinkett-Smith opens up about a previous interaction between she and Chris Rock.

During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Jada reveals Chris Rock once asked her out following some divorce rumors.

During the interview she was asked if she has a desire to talk to Chris after Will Smith slapped him across the stage at the Oscars. “Here’s my desire: I just hope that all the misunderstanding around this can be cleared up and that there can be peace,” she adds.

Jada was also asked if she was offended by the joke Chris Rock made. “I mean, that’s what comedians do,” says Jada. “I would just have to say that I am not really here to make any judgment on how people decide to express themselves and express their art. I’ll say that several times I’ve had my feelings hurt, for sure. I’ve had my feelings hurt a lot by Chris. But at the end of the day, too, being in the spotlight, it comes with the territory.”

More on Chris Rock, Jada reveals he once asked her on a date. “I think every summer all the reports would come out that me and Will were getting a divorce. And this particular summer, Chris, he thought that we were getting a divorce. So he called me and basically, he was like, ‘I’d love to take you out.’ And I was like, ‘What do you mean?’ He was like, ‘Well, aren’t you and Will getting a divorce?’ I was like, ‘No. Chris, those are just rumors.’ He was appalled. And he profusely apologized and that was that.”

We previously reported that during a recent interview Jada revealed that she and Will haven’t been together in seven years although they are still legally married.

“We’re still figuring it out,” Jada said. “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”

She explains what caused the separated. “Why it fractured, that’s a lot of things,” the actress added. “I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”

She says she decided not to file for a divorce. “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” she said. “We will work through whatever, and I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
