Blue Slide Park playground located in Pittsburgh’s Frick Park was very important to Mac Miller during his childhood.

The late artist even named his 2011 debut album ‘Blue Slide Park’ and as a tribute to the rapper, the park renamed itself to ‘Mac Miller’s Blue Slide Park’ on the Google Maps App.

Following Miller’s passing in 2018, a vigil was held at Blue Slide Park which also led to a petition to rename the park to ‘Mac Miller Blue Slide Park.’

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto responded to the petition and loved the idea but said the name won’t happen anytime soon.

“There are strict rules on naming of public assets within the city now,” Peduto told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I believe it’s three years after someone has passed that you can then name something after them. This was basically done in order to not have politicians naming things after themselves while they’re still in office.”

He then stated that he would continue working and supporting the programs that Miller and him had conversations of. Those conversations included the creation of parks to give kids and parents a safe place including a blue slide.
