Did this nurse take Halloween way too far?
A nurse from Missouri was let go from job after she outraged many of people for dressing up in a blackface ‘Beyonce’ costume for Halloween. Many deemed the costume as racially inappropriate. She posted a picture on social media, where is displayed her and a man who appears to be her husband, both doing blackface- he dressed up as Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z.
Shelbi Heenan, was a nurse at Saint Luke’s Health System hospital in Kansas City, MO. She posted the picture to her own personal social media, but, when the pictured reached the masses- many people were offended by the costume. As many feel, blackface is just simply not acceptable.
A spokesperson from the hospital said in a statement, “While it is against Saint Luke’s policy to comment on specific personnel matters, we can confirm that this individual is no longer a Saint Luke’s employee. Saint Luke’s is deeply committed to our culture of diversity and inclusion. It is fundamental to who we are as an organization and we vigorously protect it on behalf of all our patients and employees and expect those who represent us to do the same.”
