Cardi B recently responded to claims that her career success is solely due to her skin color, using Snoop Dogg as an example to support her argument. This controversy emerged after a social media influencer criticized the Bronx rapper, labeling her as “ghetto” despite not being “visibly Black.”

During an Instagram Live session, Cardi B, who is of Dominican and Trinidadian descent, directly addressed the criticism. She emphasized that her career achievements were the result of her hard work and business acumen, rather than her complexion.

Cardi explained, “There’s a lot of artists that are light-skinned. There’s a lot of artists that are dark-skinned. They don’t get the deals that I get. You wanna know why? Because a lot of n-ggas just don’t know how to market themselves.”

She further dismissed the notion of skin color advantage by referencing Snoop Dogg, who is known for his darker complexion and successful brand endorsements.

Cardi stated, “Or maybe I’m just born with it. It’s just like Snoop Dogg. Since muthafuckas wanna say I’m a gangbanger fucking ghetto bitch. Well guess what? Snoop Dogg is a gangster ass Crip. And guess what? He gets the best brand deals because we know how to brand ourselves.”

Cardi B previously expressed frustration over comments about her ethnicity and upbringing in a social media rant. Despite her accomplishments and efforts to engage in political discussions with figures like Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, she continued to face derogatory remarks and stereotypes.

She urged critics to stop using her background to make comparisons and emphasized the persistent challenges she faces in the public eye.

Cardi B’s response underscores her belief in self-made success and challenges stereotypes associated with her identity, emphasizing the importance of entrepreneurial skills and branding in the music industry.
