Cardi B still plans to release her new album, currently untitled, in 2024, despite her recent comments saying otherwise.

On Tuesday (May 13), the Bronx native expressed no desire to release her long-awaited new album this year after a negative social media exchange with fans. “NO album this year I don’t care I’m relaxing this year,” wrote Cardi on X after an exchange with fans. “Dropping these features I already committed to and traveling and enjoying my summer.”

As the latest Rolling Stone cover star, Cardi discussed her upcoming album, which is the direct follow-up to her 2018 debut album, in a March interview and was even working on it during the interview.

Rolling Stone reached out to Cardi’s team after she announced that her sophomore album won’t be released this year. Her rep confirmed that “an album in 2024 is still the plan.”

She told the magazine her upcoming album still needs an intro, at least three more songs, a title, features, and a rollout plan.

When explaining the album’s vibe, Cardi said she’s “a different person every single day.”

She clarified: “When I’m in a good mood and with my friends, I’m like, ‘Damn, I want my music in this club.’ But if I’m mad at my man, I want to make a different song. Sometimes I want to do a pop record. I want to do my sing-y shit.”

In March, she revealed that she has plenty of songs, with some recorded as early as 2023. An Instagram video captioned “January 2023…. I really got like 100 songs” showed a screen full of tracks, including one labeled “Cunty,” recorded in late January between 4 and 5 in the morning.

“January 27 of 20-20-fuckin’-three. I be working on this shit at 5 a.m. — you know I’m a night owl,” she said, referring to her work on that track. “I promise y’all this year: I’m not letting my anxiety, haters, or fans dictate my releases. If I do a song, Imma just drop it.

She continued: “Well, I got no choice because I’m dropping my album this year, so stay tuned for the announcement.”

To promote the upcoming album, Cardi teased fans with her single “Enough (Miami),” released two weeks after she dropped “Like What (Freestyle),” sampling Missy Elliot’s 1999 hit “She’s a Bitch.”

Cardi B’s debut album earned her a Grammy in 2019 for Best Rap Album. Since then, she has been on a feature run that includes chart-topping collaborations with GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, Maroon 5, Latto, and more.
