Plies has decided to withdraw his copyright lawsuit against Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, Cardi B, and Soulja Boy, for now. According to Billboard, the Florida rapper filed a motion to dismiss the case “without prejudice,” meaning he reserves the right to refile it in the future.
The lawsuit originally alleged that the artist’s 2024 track “Wanna Be” copied elements from Plies’ 2008 song “Me & My Goons,” specifically what he called the “infrared countdown beat.” He also claimed that Soulja Boy’s “Pretty Boy Swag” used the same beat.
Soulja Boy quickly fired back, dismissing the accusations as nothing more than a reach for attention.
“‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is not your [beat],” he said in a video in November 2024. “So you wanna wait 10 years to try to sue a ni**a for a beat? That is not your beat, crazy man… What the f**k is wrong with you, Plies? You need to change your name to ‘Lies,’ ’cause you a muthaf**kin’ liar… You know that ain’t your muthaf**kin’ beat, bro,” he continued.
Producer LilJujuMadeDaBeat also chimed in, arguing that Plies had no case since the beat in question originated before “Me & My Goons.” He pointed to Lil Wil’s 2007 song “My Dougie,” which was produced by Big E—who is credited on “Wanna Be.”
“For the record, ‘Pretty Boy Swag’ is a remake of ‘My Dougie’ as well,” he explained. “Nitti Beatz owns all these songs. Plies just trynna get some money lol.”
