President Trump is not expected to attend Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday following a weekend of logistical chaos and criticism from basketball fans during his previous appearance at Madison Square Garden.

Shams Charania of ESPN reported Tuesday that the president will likely skip the upcoming matchup between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. The decision follows a highly scrutinized visit to Game 3, where the presence of the commander in chief resulted in unprecedented delays for spectators and arena staff alike.

During Sunday’s game, the Secret Service implemented rigorous security protocols that transformed the fan experience into an ordeal. Ticket holders, media members and stadium employees were required to arrive hours in advance to navigate TSA-style checkpoints.

Furthermore, law enforcement cordoned off several blocks surrounding the iconic Midtown Manhattan arena, leading to gridlock that paralyzed local traffic for hours. The Knicks’ performance on the court further fueled the frustration of the home crowd. New York suffered a loss to Texas-based San Antonio, a result that some sports commentators linked to the distractions caused by the presidential visit.

Trump Reportedly Skipping Game 4:

Television personality Stephen A. Smith was among the most vocal critics, suggesting that the heightened atmosphere and logistical hurdles negatively impacted the team’s rhythm and focus. Despite the vocal backlash from the New York faithful, official reports indicate that the president’s absence from Game 4 is due to prior scheduling commitments rather than the public outcry.

The Spurs, led by their young core, look to capitalize on their recent road success as they remain in New York for the midweek contest. While the political spectacle may be moving away from the court, the pressure remains high for both teams as they compete for the professional basketball title.

White House officials have not released a formal statement regarding the president’s change in plans, but security sources confirmed that the massive footprint required for a presidential visit is not currently being staged for Wednesday night.

Individuals with tickets for Game 4 are still encouraged to arrive early, though they should expect significantly shorter wait times than those experienced during the previous matchup.
