Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) and The Game have reunited for an offbeat track titled “Tina,” a full-fledged tribute to Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles.
What began as a string of provocative Instagram posts—Ye sharing a screenshot of The Game sliding into Knowles’ DMs with a banana emoji, then posting a clip of her on The Jennifer Hudson Show captioned, “Game finna slide”—quickly escalated into something more. The duo wasn’t just trolling; they were building up to an actual song, with Ye filming Game in the studio as he laid down his verse, culminating in a full music video dedicated to the 71-year-old music manager.
From a DM to a Music Video: How “Tina” Shaped The Documentary 3
On the record, Game delivers: “I see my Destiny’s Child / DMing was stressing me out / Nervous, my stomach in knots / So I took a couple of shots.”
The track weaves in a clip from Knowles’ talk show appearance alongside a nod to Tina Turner’s classic, “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” Ye and The Game later unveiled what looked like a full-length visual for “Tina,” featuring the duo trading verses in balaclavas and high-visibility jackets. As the clip concludes, the camera lingers on a masked figure, who then states: “The Game slid into Tina Knowles’ DM’s. Everybody was going crazy like ‘what are you doing, don’t do that’ but he did it anyway. The Instagram post came after and everybody began commenting on it. Somebody saw a banana post after it.”
He continued, “Then five minutes later, an Instagram post turned into a song. And now, everybody stops laughing and everybody’s in awe just watching this all go down because the song then turned into a whole directed music video. Everybody was going crazy again. Then a music video turned into a basis for this whole album. And then before we know it, The Documentary 3.” The track has yet to hit streaming platforms, and its inclusion on The Documentary 3 remains uncertain as Ye navigates ongoing sample clearance hurdles. Beyoncé and Tina Knowles have not addressed the song at the time of this story.
