Hov will ALWAYS be the GOAT!

Even the greats have rough seasons! Although Jay Z’s ninth album, Kingdom Come, sold 680,000 copies during the week it came out and debuted at number one the Billboard 200 charts, some people feel this wasn’t Hov’s best work. His eighth album, The Black Album, at the time, was going to be his last project so it’s a possibility that fan’s expectations of his “come back” album was super high but it was also his most highly anticipated album.

1.

Jay Z released Kingdom Come after taking a three-year hiatus from putting out solo projects. The Black Album came out right before Kingdom Come and The Black Album had classic hits like “Change Clothes,” “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” and “99 Problems,” so fans were expecting joints like the previous ones.

Kingdom Come has bangers too, like “Show Me What You Got, “Lost One,” “Oh My God,” and “Hollywood,” featuring Beyoncè. Many call this album Jay Z’s “mature” album. It featured collaborators like Just Blaze, Kanye West, Swizz Beatz, The Neptunes, and Dr. Dre.

Kingdom Come didn’t take home the best rap album award and he lost to Kanye West’s Graduation at the 2008 Grammys.

3.

Overall the Kingdom Come album only had one top ten hit which was “Show Me What You Got.”

4.

When Jay Z teamed up with his wifey on “Hollywood” on Kingdom Come, it didn’t receive the same reaction as their other collabs like “Bonnie and Clyde,” and “Crazy In Love.”

Even Jay Z put Kingdom Come at the bottom of his own personal list for his favorite albums. At the end of the day, Hov will always be the greatest of all time with 14 number one albums on the Billboard 200 charts and one of the wealthiest rappers yet!
